so, who am i?
my story
Hello. I’m Tarang. I’ve been called a writer, videographer, photographer, journalist, musician, digital nomad, and oversharer. All of those tags are apt.

I grew up in Bombay. I love everything about that city—the people, the sea, the rain, the rush, the street food, the local trains, the liveliness. I would never have wished to live my formative years elsewhere. But I guess part of me always wanted more. Every time I'd drive away from the city, I'd wonder what living closer to nature would be like.
After schooling, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Economics at St. Xavier’s College. While the two subjects were often conflicting, they gave me a holistic understanding of the way the world works.

However, as I inched closer to graduation, I found myself enveloped by this cloud of doubt and uncertainty.
Unlike many of my friends, I had no idea what I’d do next. To make matters worse, were adults that warned me about the harsh realities of the ‘outside world.’

Immediately after graduating, I bagged a job with a Thai company, which had me living in Bangkok for about eight months.

The traveller in me gleamed at the opportunity. I journeyed across Thailand, occasionally writing about the places I went to.

I fell in love with writing.
Fast forward a few months, and I began my full-time writing career. During my five-year journey, I have typically worked with brands in the sustainability and impact space, with occasional exceptions. Some of my favorite projects have involved writing an elaborate pocket guide about menstrual and reproductive health for women in rural India, enabling a waste management firm to win funding, and conceptualizing an online journal spotlighting sustainable brands from across the world.

Freelance writing allowed me to be wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Taking no time in jumping at the opportunity, I travelled far and wide. Five years of living without a permanent base.

In contributing to various publications, I've written about travelling as a vegetarian in China, dying indigenous architectural techniques, navigating travel in a climate-changed world, finding a home in strangers met on the road, and so forth.

My other passions include all things music—I can play four instruments, and can harmonize to almost any song pretty darn well. I love cooking myself good meals every now and then, and long walks in the park, by the sea, in the mountains, or really anywhere—supermarkets are particularly great! I'm pretty vocal about my mental health struggles, and find tremendous strength in being vulnerable.
